Report: Presidential Pardons More Likely to Go to White Criminals

December 4, 2011

Presidential pardons over the past 10 years were nearly four times as likely to go to white criminals than to minorities, a ProPublica investigation published in The Washington Post on Sunday found.

Black criminals are the least likely, the investigation found, to receive the president's pardon, The Post reported.

"Current and former officials at the White House and Justice Department said they were surprised and dismayed by the racial disparities, which persist even when factors such as the type of crime and sentence are considered," The Post reported.
