In the spring of 2011, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner tried to recruit Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to replace him at Treasury, The Washington Post reports.

“The talks gained traction inside the White House before being scuttled shortly before the debt-ceiling talks on Capitol Hill intensified,” The Post wrote.

Clinton expressed some cautious interest, but ultimately, the idea was dropped.

Geithner mentioned several names to the White House, like former Chief of Staff Bill Daley, but nothing stuck. Geithner wanted to move back to New York for his son’s senior year in high school.
