In a move that surprised Washington, the White House announced on Sunday night that the president would make a statement from the White House at 10:30 P.M. EST. White House officials would not say what the statement was regarding and senior officials were keeping mum in response to queries from National Journal and other news outlets.
Given the late hour, and the surprise timing of the statement, it could be concerning most anything from the war in Libya to the pursuit ofOsama Bin Laden to the hurricane damage in the American South or some topic that's not remotely in the news.
At last night's White House Correspondents Association Dinner, administration officials offered no hint that big news was coming the next day.
National Journal will continue to follow developments from the White House.
