President Obama said on Wednesday that he had seen no evidence that U.S. national security was compromised from the scandal roiling the Pentagon and CIA with the resignation of Director David Petraeus.
- Speaking at his first news conference since winning reelection, Obama also said the White House would allow the investigative process to run its course.
- Asked if security had been compromised by the disclosures, Obama said: "I have no evidence at this point from what I have seen that classified information was disclosed that in any way would have had negative impact on our national security. Obviously, there's an ongoing investigation. I don't want to comment on the specifics of the investigation. The FBI has its own protocols in terms of how they proceed."
- Obama praised Petraeus’s service, but said he had accepted Petraeus’s resignation because Petraeus had fallen short of his own standards in conducting an extramarital affair. Obama called the indiscretion “a single side note in an otherwise extraordinary career.”
