Republicans have enjoyed attacking President Obama for his “cool” image lately, and his visit to D.C.’s Taylor Gourmet sandwich shop on Wednesday for a discussion with small-business owners won’t help.
Taylor, known for its artisanal take on traditional Philadelphia hoagies, originated on H St. NE, one of Washington’s most hipster neighborhoods.
The sandwich shop tried to keep the POTUS visit under wraps, claiming that tents and security around the store’s 14th Street location were for a “bread delivery.”
Obama said he’d offer hoagies to the congressional leaders he was having lunch with later that day, racking up a bill of $62.79. Turns out the meal wasn’t too cool to appeal to House Speaker John Boehner. An aide from Boehner’s office said the speaker was “very pleased” with the sandwiches.
