White House Press Secretary Jay Carney on Tuesday defended the president's silence on a controversial comment made by a union leader at a Labor Day event where Obama spoke.
Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa, speaking at a rally on Monday in Detroit, targeted Tea Party politicians, urging supporters to "take these son-of-a-bitches out."
"Those weren't comments by the president," Carney said when asked about how Obama feels about the fiery rhetoric. "The president wasn't on the stage. He didn't speak for another 20 minutes. He didn't hear it. I don't really have any comment beyond that."
