Catholic Bishops Oppose Contraception Deal

February 11, 2012 | 3:58 p.m.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on Friday night issued a statement opposing President Obama's compromise that he offered earlier that day on the administration's contraceptive insurance policy, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Earlier Friday, the bishops had stated that the compromise was "a first step in the right direction"

But in the end, they said they have "serious moral concerns" about it. They said the compromise did not contain provisions for religious employers who self-insure.
