White House press secretary Jay Carney argued that President Obama has an "all-of-the-above" approach to energy policy while fielding questions about rising oil prices at Tuesday's briefing.
"There are no magic solutions to rising oil prices and the pain that Americans feel at the pump," Carney said. "This is not something that this administration discovered or rediscovers every spring, as some politicians do."
The spokesman then went on to tout the Obama administration's efforts to increase domestic oil and gas production. (Just after 03:00 in the clip below, Carney argues that the president did not "turn down" the Keystone XL pipeline.)
Earlier on Tuesday, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich called Obama's energy policies "anti-American," saying that the president and his administration want gas prices to increase.
Carney responded to the former House speaker's claim: "A rise in the price of oil globally often results in magic solutions being put forward by politicians who may or may not know what they're talking about."
