President Obama on Monday previewed his big speech on job creation, calling on Congressional Republicans to put the American people before partisan politics, the Associated Press reports.

Speaking at a Labor Day event sponsored by the Metropolitan Detroit AFL-CIO, the president touted investments in infrastructure as a source of job-creation. He's expected to call for a mix of individual and business tax credits and public works spending in his prime-time speech on Thursday. Obama is also expected to lean on Congress to act on legislation to boost jobs. In his remarks on Monday he put the onus on the GOP.

"We're going to see if we've got some straight shooters in Congress. We're going to see if congressional Republicans will put country before party," Obama said. "Show us what you've got."
