A severe line of thunderstorms is currently moving eastward over the beltway with the capability of producing quarter-sized hailstones, tornadoes, and gusts exceeding 70 miles per hour. Around 3:50 p.m., the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado near Fairfax, Va.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the entire D.C. - Baltimore area until 10 p.m.

In June, a strong "derecho" line of thunderstorms swept through the area, leaving 1 million people without power.
