Biden Takes Hard Line Against Romney on Immigration, Finances

Vice President Joe Biden unleashed tough accusations against Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney in a speech at the National Council of La Raza’s annual conference. Biden tied together Romney’s historically harsh stance against illegal immigration to his reluctance to release a larger history of his personal finances.

“He wants you to show your papers, but he won’t show us his,”  Biden said.

Romney Ad Targets Hispanics, Invites Them to ‘Get to Know Him’

Presumptive Republican candidate Mitt Romney released another campaign ad targeting Hispanics, this time with his son speaking in Spanish. In the ad, titled “I Invite You,” Romney’s youngest son Craig speaks in Spanish about Romney’s sense of family and love of America. The ad will air across the nation, the National Journal reports.

Border Patrol Agents Accused of Profiting off Illegal Immigrants

Raul Villarreal, a former U.S. Border Patrol agent, has become the latest in a wave of former agents accused of taking bribes and participating in other schemes to profit off illegal immigration. Average fees to smuggle a human across the borders has tripled since the 1980s to about $2,500, though sometimes agents may also be conflicted over wanting to help another fellow human, The Daily reports.

Lesbian Super PAC Backed by Prominent Supporters and Celebs

LPAC, a super PAC including backers such as sports legend Billie Jean King and actress Jane Lynch, has launched Wednesday in hopes of yielding the political prowess of the lesbian community. The group plans to support pro-lesbian candidates regardless of political affiliation, gender or sexual orientation.

TV Ad Accuses Arizona Senate Candidate of Hiring Illegal Immigrants

Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., released new television ads in his campaign for the Senate seat, accusing his opponent, fellow Republican Wil Cardon, of being affiliated with restaurants that hired illegal immigrants. Cardon serves as president of The Cardon Group, which has a stake in RCC Partners, which was fined by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement for hiring illegal immigrants in several of its Arizona Subway franchises. Cardon’s campaign fired back, saying the group had a minority stake in RCC Partners and was never involved in the hiring of any of its Subway employees.

Maryland’s Same-Sex Marriage Measure Will Appear on November Ballots

Opponents of the same-sex marriage in Maryland signed into law earlier this year by Gov. Martin O’Malley have successfully won the their petition to send the measure to the November polls. The Maryland Marriage Alliance submitted 109,313 signatures by the end of May, far surpassing the necessary 55,736 signatures required to force a vote.
