Retiring Mass. Rep. Frank Marries Partner

Rep. Barney Frank was married on Saturday in his home state of Massachusetts, becoming the first member of Congress to be involved in a same-sex marriage, according to The New York Times.

Frank, 72, married Jim Ready, 42, in a short ceremony officiated by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, The Times reported. Among those who attended were Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Sen. John Kerry and Reps. Dennis Kucinich and Steny Hoyer.

Frank, the first openly gay member of Congress, met Ready, a carpenter and a welder, at a political fundraiser in 2005, The Times reported. At their wedding, the two wrote their own vows, which included a pledge to love each other “on MSNBC or on Fox” and “in Congress or in retirement.”

Frank has announced that he will retire at the end of his term.
