Facebook appears to be eying a May IPO, while the U.S. government is set to unveil a big data research initiative.

Facebook is aiming to launch its initial public offering in May, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The New York Times previews a major research initiative related to big data computing that the federal government will outline Thursday.

Apple CEO Tim Cook visited Foxconn’s iPhone factory in China, Reuters reports.

In a meeting with Japan’s prime minister, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the country’s devastating tsunami inspired him to look for new ways to use his social networking service to help people affected by such disasters, according to the Associated Press.

AOL may generate $290 million from selling a trove of patents, far less than what investors predicted, according to Bloomberg.

MegaUpload’s lawyers say U.S. authorities are impeding their defense by blocking access to the site’s servers, CNET reports.

Neither side seems willing to give much ahead of next month’s trial over Oracle’s patent lawsuit against Google, the Associated Press reports.
