The Justice Department website failed to load on Thursday, and the Internet hacker group Anonymous took credit for the apparent cyberattack, according to a news report.
The website failure comes on the same day that federal officials shuttered the file-upload site Megaupload.com and company executives were arrested on charges that they violated federal piracy laws.
"The government takes down #Megaupload? 15 minutes later #Anonymous takes down government & record label sites. #ExpectUs," read a tweet from Anonymous.
The news that the Justice Department website had failed was reported by The Washington Post.
