The website that knows everything about metered paywalls and click-through rates has been bought by the website that prides itself in its technology and media coverage. Today, GigaOm founder Om Malik announced his acquisition of paidContent. It's the biggest acquisition in the tech site's five-and-a-half year history and, according to Malik, is a bid to expand GigaOm's events business in New York and Europe. It also brings paidContent's talented editorial team, including Ernie Sander and Staci Kramer, into the GigaOm fold.

"We’re eager to expand our coverage of social and digital media editorially, in our research and at our events. paidContent is the best chronicler of the media industry, and by blending their coverage with ours, we hope to watch this fast-changing industry ever more closely," said Malik. It sounds like the new-media writers over at paidContent may come in handy as new-media thinkers for the expanded events business. But time will ultimately tell.

No word yet on how much Malik coughed up for the media site, but according to the press release (here posted by TechCrunch), paidContent's parent company, Guardian News & Media, will take a minority share in GigaOm. Peter Kafka at All Things D reported on rumors of the deal on Monday.
