You know things might be getting tough when team Obama has to reach back to 2008 Sarah Palin endorsements to defend Vice President Joe Biden.

On ABC’s This Week, Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter did just that when trying to deflect criticism from former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani that Biden “isn't bright” and may not have the “mental capacity” to succeed President Obama if tragedy were to strike.

“I would like to point back to his glowing introduction of Sarah Palin during the 2008 convention,” Cutter said of Giuliani’s rah-rahs for Palin. “So if he wants to criticize the capacity of a vice president to take hold of this country, he should go back and look at those remarks and whether he still believes that they're true.”

Cutter went on to say Biden is a “critical partner to the president.”
