Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., said that Rep. Todd Akin, who is struggling in Missouri’s Senate race after his comments about rape and pregnancy, could win the race.

“Todd very well may win,” Blunt said.

Akin is facing tall odds, after much of the Republican establishment abandoned him and recent polls show him trailing Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.

However, because the race may impact the GOP’s chances of retaking the chamber, some Republicans have rallied around Akin in recent days, even if that support is reluctant in some cases.

“This is a race about the majority of the Senate,” Blunt said on CNN’s State of the Union, adding that it is “still at least 50-50 that the Republicans take over the Senate.”
