Y2K: The Eleventh Hour

    Legislative morass has caught Y2K in its grasp, as the Senate debate over liability limitation becomes a symbol of interparty conflict. The White House continues to hold the line, threatening to veto even a Democratic alternative. Meanwhile, a different Year 2000 issue — the presidential race — has become embroiled in Y2K, as Republicans gleefully watch Al Gore try to choose between Silicon Valley and trial lawyers. The only Y2K movement seems to be on our clock, which advances four minutes.
