S. 1729, Medication Errors Reduction Act
Sponsor: Sen. Bob Graham, D-Fla.
Introduced: Oct. 13, 2003
Committee: Senate Finance
Description: S. 1729 would authorize money for grants to hospitals and nursing systems so they could implement standardized, computer-based "informatics" systems designed to help in the event of medication errors. At least 20 percent of the funds would go to rural hospitals. Hospitals could not receive more than $750,000, while aid to nursing facilities would be capped at $200,000. The bill would authorize $93 million annually through fiscal 2013 for hospitals and $4.5 million for nursing facilities.
