Not all governors have full-time science and technology policy advisers like the president, but perhaps they should.
Tech and science issues are progressively playing an important role in the policymaking of states, as they have for decades on the national level. From debates over national identification standards to concerns about social-networking sites like MySpace, cyber crime and digital signatures, state governments are setting policy standards for an array of tech-related issues.
