Around The Horn
If you've spent the week watching the stock market plunge or the latest Ayers/Keating attacks, you probably missed some other key '08 developments. Here's your Friday catch up.
-- Senate: The prosecution rested its case 10/9 against Stevens, but their prospects look shakier than ever. Meanwhile, Begich has gotten zero attention back home as the AK press corps is either camped in DC or on the trail with Palin. A defense victory could put AK out of reach for Dems. Yet another reason for the DSCC to go into GA?
-- House: If opening your 401(k) statement depresses you, try being a GOPer looking at new House polls. The DCCC can use its extra cash to attack previously stable GOPers like Terry in NE-02 and Drake in VA-02. As of 10/8, the DCCC had spent $23.5M in 37 CDs (75% went to challengers), to the NRCC's $1.5M in 11 races (all but one are defensive buys).
-- Govs: If there's a silver lining for GOPers, it may be here. McCrory's looking strong in NC while Rossi's outperforming McCain big time in WA. Meanwhile, IN GOV polls are all over the map, but Daniels has $$ for final stretch, JLT doesn't.
Quote of the Day
"We know what the problems are. We have the tools to fix them, and we're working swiftly to do so."
— Pres. Bush, on the economic crisis, mult., 10/10.

So Blue It's Green?
The VT GOV race. And the fact that the state legislature will decide the election if no candidate gets 50% of the vote. BTW, the Dems control the Senate 23-7 and House 93-49.
