About The Almanac
The Authors
Michael Barone, senior writer at U.S. News & World Report and a Fox News Channel contributor. The Chicago Tribune says, "Michael Barone is to politics what statistician-writer Bill James is to baseball, a mix of historian, social observer, and numbers cruncher who illuminates his subject with perspective and a touch of irreverence." His most recent book is Hard America, Soft America, published by Crown Forum in 2004.
Richard E. Cohen brings to the Almanac 28 years of experience covering Capitol Hill. He is the 1990 winner of the Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for distinguished reporting on Congress and National Journal's congressional correspondent since 1977. Cohen is the author of several books about Congress, including a biography of former Rep. Dan Rostenkowski.

The Publisher
"The nation's most respected nonpartisan source of information about how Washington policymaking machinery really works."
That's how Newsweek described National Journal. For more than 30 years, National Journal has reached subscribers with an award-winning weekly magazine noted for its dedication to "facts only" reporting. National Journal speaks to people who make it their business to know what's going on in the world's largest business -- the United States Government.
Only National Journal is exclusively devoted to the coverage of what the government is doing today, what it's going to do tomorrow, and how its actions affect our lives.
This 2006 edition of The Almanac of American Politics marks the twelfth volume to be published by National Journal Group.
In addition to the Almanac and National Journal, National Journal Group publishes Government Executive, a monthly magazine for senior federal managers; CongressDaily, a twice-daily news service covering Congress; The Hotline, the premier daily publication on campaign politics; National Journal's Technology Daily, a twice-daily news service on information technology politics and policy; NationalJournal.com, the online source for political and policy professionals; The Capital Source, a semi-annual Washington directory; and the National Journal Convention Daily, a daily newspaper published at the Democratic and Republican Conventions.
