Colorado was a three-way battleground in the 1992 presidential race, when it was one of Ross Perot's best states; a two-way battleground in 1996, when Bill Clinton tried to repeat his 1992 victory here and fell short; and not much of a battleground at all in 2000.

Colorado has had an early March presidential primary since 1992, when it was won by Jerry Brown. The 2000 primary came just after Super Tuesday, which ended the campaigns of Bill Bradley and John McCain.
