Michael Barone, senior writer at U.S. News & World Report, is a regular panelist on The McLaughlin Group and a Fox News Channel contributor. The Chicago Tribune says, "Michael Barone is to politics what statistician-writer Bill James is to baseball, a mix of historian, social observer, and numbers cruncher who illuminates his subject with perspective and a touch of irreverence." He is the author of The New Americans: How the Melting Pot Can Work Again, published by Regnery in May 2001.

Richard E. Cohen brings to the Almanac 24 years of experience covering Capitol Hill. He is the 1990 winner of the Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for distinguished reporting on Congress and National Journal's congressional correspondent since 1977. Cohen is an active author of books about Congress, including a 1999 biography of former Rep. Dan Rostenkowski.
