As experts debate the merits of President Obama's two leading secretary of State candidates--Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts and U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice--and as key GOP senators voice their displeasure at a potential Rice nomination and their approval of a nomination for Kerry, some pundits are beginning to wonder if the GOP's motivations are based more on the 2014 elections than on the qualifications of the candidates.
After Republican Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts lost his reelection bid to Democrat Elizabeth Warren, the GOP probably would not mind a second chance at reclaiming the seat previously held by Sen. Edward Kennedy for nearly half a century.
