GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney critcized President Obama on Wednesday for failing to reach out to the GOP, saying on MSNBC's Morning Joe that, if elected, he would maintain an open line of communciation with Democrats.
Romney said he would have regular, behind-the-scenes meetings with Democrats, even when he didn’t have a specific agenda to push. It's important to “have a personal relationship of trust so when tough times arise, you’ve already built that relationship and you know how you can proceed to get people to act in a concerted way,” he said. Obama failed to do that by neglecting to find common ground with the Republicans in Congress during his first two years in office, Romney said.
"[Obama] failed the test of leadership," Romney said, adding that he failed in another area: bolstering the frail economic recovery. Obama doesn’t understand that entrepreneurs hire when they have customers—not when they have cash in their pockets, Romney said.
In order to “make America the most attractive place in the world for entrepreneurs, for innovators, for investors,” Romney said he would make employer tax rates globally competitive, streamline regulations, implement trade policies that open markets (and clamping down on China when it cheats), and work toward energy independence.
