Rick Santorum's Track Record in the Senate

According to National Journal’s annual ratings, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum’s votes on key issues often placed him in the conservative faction of the Senate. But he was not consistently found among the chamber’s most conservative members. For instance, in the years leading to his 2006 reelection contest, Santorum’s voting record became relatively much more liberal as he sought to appeal to Pennsylvania’s many moderate and independent voters. He lost the race to Democrat Robert Casey Jr.
