Petition to 'Ignore Sarah Palin' Surpasses 32,000 Signatures

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

An online petition by Left Action Network seeking to declare “Ignore Sarah Palin Week” through March 5 is nearing its goal of 35,000 signatures.

“For just one week,” the website reads, “signers of this petition pledge to do the following: Change the channel if [Palin] comes on TV; Surf to another page if she pops up on the web; Turn to another article if she appears in a newspaper, magazine, comic book, etc.” Left Action goes so far as to suggest, “If a friend mentions ‘Sarah Palin,’ reply as if he or she said, ‘Parasailing.’”

The petition takes one step further the moratorium imposed—however unsuccessfully—by Washington Post reporter Dana Milbank last month. Borrowing from Palin's signature lingo, the site assures that this time, “you betcha we’re ignoring her!”

In an effort to preempt opening the floodgates for malicious rhetoric, the petition includes a post-script disclaimer: “We wish only the best for Sarah Palin and her family. We just don’t want her to be president, and we just want to take a week off from paying attention to her.

“Have fun in the comments, but keep it nice, and no threats—even in jest, okay?”
