In a video posted to his website on Sunday, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty made his presidential ambitions official.
"I am running for president of the United States," Pawlenty declared.
Pawlenty is scheduled to make a series of appearances on morning television news programs Monday in advance of a midday appearance in Des Moines, Iowa.
He has spent months laying the groundwork for a presidential bid and in recent days has seen two potential competitors, Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, say they won't run. Daniels and Huckabee could have cut into Pawlenty's support among conservatives in Iowa, the state where the first ballots of next year's presidential campaign will be cast and a state where Pawlenty must do well.
