In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, President Obama gave Texas Gov. Rick Perry a pass for recent attacks on the presidency, but took issue with Mitt Romney's "corporations are people" comment.
On the stump in Iowa on Monday, Perry said that one reason he is running is to "make sure every man and woman who puts on the uniform highly respects the president." When asked if Perry's comments were disrespectful to the commander in chief, Obama said, "I'll cut him some slack; he's only been at it for a few days now."
Romney was put on the spot in Iowa last week when hecklers urged him to increase taxes on corporations rather than on the American people. "Corporations are people, my friend,” Romney said in response.
When asked about Romney's comment, Obama said if Romney is implying that "every corporate tax break that's out there is somehow good for ordinary Americans, [and] that we have a tax code that's fair," then "that I disagree with."
The president was in Peosta, Iowa, on the second day of his Midwest bus tour.
