Komen for the Cure apologized Friday for "recent decisions" and pledged to continue funding to Planned Parenthood, according to a statement on the organization's blog

Dallasnews.com published the statement from Nancy Brinker and the Susan G. Komen Board of Directors, which apologized to the American public "for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives."

"We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not," the statement said.

The statement also asserted that in the future, the criteria for disqualifying organizations from receiving aid must be criminal in nature, not political.
