Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, is officially running for Congress in Ohio's 9th District. According to the Federal Election Commission, Wurzelbacher filed for candidacy on Oct. 6.

Wurzelbacher rose to prominence during the 2008 presidential campaign after publicly questioning then-candidate Barack Obama's plan to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire. The McCain-Palin campaign used Wurzelbacher as a symbol for how Obama's plan would hurt working-class Americans. Further investigation showed that Wurzelbacher wasn't actually a licensed plumber.

The district Wurzelbacher is running in is held by Rep. Marcy Kaptur, the longest-serving Democratic woman in the House, the Associated Press reported.
