Gingrich Plays Up Halfhearted Palin Endorsement

When asked by Sean Hannity on Fox News if she was ready to make an endorsement, Sarah Palin said, "If I had to vote in South Carolina, in order to keep this thing going, I would vote for Newt." The halfheartedness of the remark didn't stop Newt Gingrich's team from posting the Fox News clip immediately on its site, according to The New York Times, and tweeting his thanks to the Palin team.

Adding to the ambiguity, Palin said she'd prefer to see the nominating race drag out until to the bitter end. "Each one of these primaries and caucuses are different, Sean. I want to see this thing continue. Iron sharpens iron, steel sharpens steel." Gingrich currently trails Mitt Romney in the polls by about 18 points. Last week, her husband, Todd Palin, gave his full-fledged backing to Gingrich.
