Former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will appear at a campaign event next Saturday on behalf of the candidate she asked to run in her stead, Tucson Weekly reports.
Giffords stepped down from Congress following last year's shooting, which left six dead and Giffords with a gunshot wound to the head. She survived, but chose to resign to focus on her recovery. Ron Barber, formerly Giffords' district director, is running for her seat against Republican Jesse Kelly in the district's special election on June 12.
The paper reports that this would be her first public appearance in Tucson since she resigned from Congress.
