Four House Republicans Targeted in SEIU Debt-Ceiling Spots

The SEIU and progressive group Americans United for Change will hit the airwaves on Thursday with ads that depict Republican congressmen driving the economy off a cliff – literally.

The 30-second spots, set to air in districts represented by Reps. Sean Duffy, R-Wis., Dave Camp, R-Mich., Richard Hanna, R-N.Y., and Chip Cravaack, R-Minn., target the GOP lawmakers for risking default over the country’s debt-ceiling negotiations. At the same time, the ad alleges, the congressmen are busy protecting oil companies and “CEOs who fly around in corporate jets.”

The ads end with footage of a car literally, graphically driving off a cliff and crashing onto the rocks below.

“Tell Congressmen Hanna: Don’t drive America’s economy off a cliff,” a narrator intones in one version of the ad.

The ads are scheduled to run Thursday and Friday on broadcast TV in the members’ districts, according to a spokesman for Americans United for Change.
