“I don’t like it when people tell me what to do, like, ‘Buy health care’ or, ‘Don’t carry a concealed weapon in the car!’ or, ‘Hey, that leather jacket is way too small for you!’ ” actor Josh Gondelman tells his viewers.

In case you’ve been asleep all week, Daily Show alum John Oliver, whose half-hour show will premiere on April 27, is mocking this new(ish) Republican ad that lets young people know its OK to vote Republican.

The GOP is trying to make inroads with young people, who voted overwhelmingly for Obama in 2008 and 2012. Since they can’t win young people on issues like immigration, gay marriage, and drug reform, they’re trying to win them with hipster glasses and tiny leather jackets.

The effort has already been pretty effectively flamed by Salon‘s Alex Pareene, who summarized Republicans’ understanding of young people thusly: ” ‘Whatever,’ as the millennials say. ‘LOL,’ they sext one another. ‘Let’s frack some shale gas, YOLO.’ “
