Conventions 2012 / GOP Convention

You Can't Bring This to Tampa -- PICTURES

August 27, 2012

Like fruit with your nominating speeches? You may be out of luck. Security officials have clamped down in Tampa, and a list of items prohibited from the convention in the Tampa Bay Times Forum ranges from the obvious (firearms, explosives) to the oddly mundane (whole fruit, Tupperware).

Here is just a small sampling of items that you can't bring into the convention. And, remember, things not already on the list can be deemed unsafe and barred by security personnel.

"Whole fruit" is not allowed within the convention's security perimeter. This, at a minimum, includes bananas.(AP Photo/David Goldman)

Despite the storm, umbrellas are not permitted within the security perimeter of the convention, unless they are provided by the Committee on Arrangements or the 2012 Tampa Bay Host Committee.(AP Photo/David Becker)

"Voice-enhancement devices," such as the bullhorn used here by Jon Huntsman, are barred from the convention.(AP Photo/Elise Amendola)

Baseballs, like the one thrown here by Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson, are not allowed at the convention.(AP Photo/Chris O'Meara)

Strollers are barred from entering the convention's security perimeter.(AP Photo/Jose Luis Magana)

Flashlights, like the one held here by former California GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, are forbidden unless authorized by the Committee on Arrangements Event Production or Security Divisions.(AP Photo/Adam Lau)

Coolers, like the one carried here by Mitt Romney, are prohibited at the convention.(AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)

Containers of any type, including bottles, are barred.(AP Photo/David Richard)

"Poles and sticks," possibly including those like the one holding Mitt Romney's pork chop at the Iowa State Fair, are on the list of banned items.(AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)
