Under Attack? Political Sniping at Women-- PICTURES

April 24, 2012

Gender-based comments directed toward women have been making the headlines, with targets ranging from from Elizabeth Warren to Ann Romney. We take a look at recent statements that have provoked discussion.

After Elizabeth Warren, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Massachusetts, commented on Republican incumbent Scott Brown's pictorial in Cosmopolitan, saying she didn't "take her clothes off for money," Brown retorted, "Thank God."(Chet Susslin)

CNN contributor and Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen later apologized after saying that Ann Romney couldn't understand the economic concerns of women because she had "never worked a day in her life."(AP Photo/David Tulis)

Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., landed in hot water after making the following statement about Michelle Obama: "She lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself."

Ann Romney herself has been criticized for comments she made to a "Moms for Mitt" group outside of Philadelphia. "Why should women be paid equal to men?" she asked. "Men have been in the working world a lot longer and deserve to be paid at a higher rate. Heck, I'm a working mom and I'm not paid a dime. I depend on my husband to provide for me and my family, as should most women.... "(AP Photo)
