Protesters Encircle White House Seeking to 'Stop the Pipeline'—PICTURES

November 6, 2011

An estimated 12,000 protesters circled the White House on Sunday, protesting the proposed Keyston XL pipeline that would bring carbon-heavy tar-sands oil from Canada to U.S. refineries on the Gulf Coast. The protesters gathered on a pleasant, sunny afternoon. Many were heard chanting, "Stop the pipeline; yes we can." Here's a look at the scene from the protest near the North Lawn of the White House.
