Highlights From Tuesday's National Journal Events

To open the second day of the Republican National Convention, National Journal held a Daily Briefing event, "The Election in Numbers: A Conversation With Leading Pollsters." First to speak was Ron Kaufman, senior adviser with the Romney campaign. Things got heated as Kaufman discussed why Mitt Romney is the perfect tea party candidate and whether Romney's attack ads were fair and true.
The session closed with pollsters Kellyanne Conway and Whit Ayres. The panel discussed the biggest demographic challenges facing each presidential nominee.
At lunch, prominent politicians weighed in during "Path to Power." The panel featured Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, and Glenn Hubbard, a Romney for President economic adviser and the dean of the Columbia Business School. The group discussed the specifics of Romney's tax-reform plan and how the candidate might work with a Republican-majority Senate.
The day wrapped up with a two-part "Compare the Candidates" panel. Dr. Lanhee Chen, Romney for President policy director, discussed where Romney stands on Medicare, executive authority, the Dream Act, and China. Then, CNN political correspondent Candy Crowley and Washington Examiner Chief Political Correspondent Byron York covered both candidates' relationship to important voter groups.
