Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., who is the longest-serving Republican in the Senate along with Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, is in the political fight of his career against Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock. Lugar's long Senate career—he was first elected in 1976—is punctuated with highlights that include the Nunn-Lugar legislation on nuclear nonproliferation.
