After the Attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya -- PICTURES

September 12, 2012

On Tuesday night, a crowd of rioters stormed the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, setting fires and firing machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades. U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans died during the attack.

Below are photos taken by Associated Press photographer Ibrahim Alaguri of scenes in Benghazi in the aftermath of the attack.

Obama administration officials told The New York Times they believed the attack did not spontaneously spin out from protests over a little-known U.S. film that Muslims found offensive, but had been planned ahead of time.(AP Photo/Ibrahim Alaguri)
