CAMPAIGN 2012

Perry Promises to 'Completely Overhaul' Washington

Perry: I'll Bring a Sledgehammer to Washington

Like many who have challenged sitting presidents before him, Texas Gov. Rick Perry says he is ready to shake up the Washington establishment. But Perry’s aggressive tone takes that shake-up to the extreme. In an op-ed in The Washington Times, Perry promises to “completely overhaul” Washington if elected.

He lays out his plans in a five-part priority list, which entails such executive orders as: prohibiting the Health and Human Services Department from implementing Obama’s Affordable Care Act, ordering federal agencies to open fields for domestic energy exploration, imposing a moratorium on federal regulations until they are deemed necessary, and deploying the National Guard to protect the United States' Southern borders.

Perry also says he would continue to deliver executive orders to federal agencies to “fundamentally change the way Washington works” and impose a "cut, balance, and grow" plan to “jolt the economy back to life.”
