The top Democrat in the House, Nancy Pelosi, on Monday called for an ethics investigation of Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y.
"I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthony's wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents."
Pelosi issued a statement after Weiner told a news conference he sent a lewd photograph of himself to one of his Twitter followers and then lied about it. He said that he tweeted the picture by accident, instead of sending it directly, but admitted to other instances of improper communications with other women.
"I am calling for an ethics committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred," Pelosi said.
There was no immediate comment from Ethics Committee Chairman Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Ala., or committee staffers.
