Obama Declares Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi Disaster Areas

May 4, 2011

President Obama issued federal disaster declarations for the states of Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky on Wednesday, the White House announced.

The move allows federal aid to supplement state and local aid for the states that have been ravaged by floods, tornadoes, and severe storms over the past few weeks.

The Mississippi and Ohio rivers have been approaching record flood stages from Illinois southward, and earlier this week the Army Corps of Engineers had to intentionally destory a levee in Missouri to relieve pressure on the swollen rivers.
