Dan Froomkin, who has written White House Watch since 2004, leads his coverage of the administration with opinion and no original reporting -- summarizing, highlighting and linking to coverage elsewhere, whether in print, broadcast or online.
Over time, he formulated a theme for his analysis of White House news, aimed at the shadowy, opaque nature of the Bush administration. "The column became more skeptical," he said. By aggregating the available coverage, Froomkin sought to draw readers in to connect any available dots pertaining to the White House.
Froomkin suggested that mainstream media blogs are graduating from an experimental phase and that White House reporting in blog format will continue during the coverage of President Bush's successor. "I think this is absolutely the way of the future," Froomkin said. "Blogs are a wonderful medium for journalism and more authentic than the journalism that you get in the newspaper. Blogs allow an experienced reporter to share more of the information with the reader."
