Deputy CEO For Outside-The-Hall Operations
Convention business won't get under way inside the main venues unless everything outside is running smoothly. The job of overseeing the housing, shuttle buses, and security falls to Moody, the convention's deputy CEO for outside-the-hall operations. A veteran logistics guy who handled similar duties at past conventions, Moody has gotten to know Denver the way he learned about Boston in 2004, Los Angeles in 2000, and Chicago in 1996.
As the city braces for its 50,000 visitors, Moody is the convention's point person for dealing with the police, the host committee, the transportation agencies, and other outside groups. He will spend much of the convention out and about, making sure that everything is humming along as planned. "If I wait to get a phone call about a problem," Moody said, "it's too late."
The Las Vegas native is an engineer by training. He designed cars and sneakers before becoming a special-events guru. For this year's convention, he even oversaw the design of the credentials that attendees will be wearing around their necks. Between the 2004 and 2008 conventions, Moody was the operations chief for the American Cancer Society's government-relations office.
