Senior vice president and general counsel, Lockheed Martin
Age: 47
Details: A first-rate intellect, he was a federal prosecutor, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan, and then Bush's deputy attorney general from late 2003 to mid-2005. Admirers say he played a heroic role in fighting White House moves of doubtful legality. Some Bush loyalists see him as a traitor. Conservatives also suspect that he may not share their philosophy. But he is an impressive witness and seems confirmable.
