In the 2008 election, as in 1992, "It's the economy, stupid." A plurality of registered voters now says that poor economic conditions are the nation's most important problem. And things could get worse. A U.S. recession is waiting in the wings, thanks to the subprime mortgage fiasco and the subsequent global credit crunch. And a European, Chinese, and Asian slowdown could follow.
