A bipartisan team of Washington messaging veterans is launching a new public affairs and crisis communications firm today, National Journal has learned.

Stuart Roy, Richard Ades and Blain Rethmeier have joined forces to form Strategic Action Public Affairs, a mid-sized comms shop that will work with traditional lobbying operations to provide advocacy, media and digital programs. The firm will also help clients navigate the dangerous world of crisis and litigation communications.

“The public policy challenges for corporations, trade associations and other organizations combined with high stakes communications’ risks are driving a need for senior level strategists who are hands-on and provide strategic counsel and execution,” Roy said. “Gone are the days when this kind of work gets pushed down to junior staff. Washington public affairs requires a different model than traditional PR.”

Roy is a former spokesman for former House Majority Leader Tom Delay and Sen. Mitch McConnell. Ades is a former Clinton administration aide. And Rethmeier has worked in communications on Capitol Hill and in the George W. Bush White House.
